H1N1 clinics scheduled WILTON -- Wilton will be holding new H1N1 vaccine clinics set for Wilton residents next week. The H1N1, or swine flu, vaccine will be available on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Comstock Community Center for persons 7 to 24 years old with an underlying health condition that places them at high risk for H1N1 flu. These high risk health conditions include chronic diseases of the lung (including asthma), cardiovascular system (except high blood pressure), kidney, liver, cognitive, neurological, neuromuscular, blood disorders, metabolic disorders (including diabetes) and a weakened or suppressed immune system (such as HIV/AIDS or taking certain medications). There is also a H1N1 flu clinic for healthy persons ages 2 to 24 on Friday, Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Nursing & Home Care. In order to make a flu vaccine appointment, visit www.wiltonct.org/fluresponseteam/index.html. Also, call the Nursing & Home Care Flu Info Line at 203-834-6341 ext. 444 with specific questions concerning the eligibility for receiving vaccine. According to Wilton Fire Chief Paul Milositz, in order to go to the clinic, an appointment must be made online and the criteria for each priority group must be made. To make a flu vaccine appointment, visit www.wiltonct.org/fluresponseteam/index.html. Also, call the Nursing & Home Care Flu Info Line at (203) 834-6341 ext. 444 with specific questions concerning the eligibility for receiving vaccine. "We are trying something different because of the limited amount of vaccine," said Milositz. "It seems to be working pretty well so far and the clinics are filling up fast." Wilton election results to be audited WILTON -- The Town of Wilton has been chosen to have its municipal election results audited. According to Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, 10 percent of the polling places in Connecticut are subject to an audit each election. Democratic Wilton Registrar of Voters Carole Young-Kleinfeld said only machine counted ballots in District 1, which had its polling location at Wilton High School, will be audited. Young-Kleinfeld said that experienced Wilton poll workers will be auditing approximately 1,500 ballots. "We will have people hand checking these ballots," she said. "The purpose of auditing these ballots is to make sure that our machines aren't totally out of wack and can read the darkened ovals properly." DTC urges Sen. Lieberman to drop filibuster threat WILTON -- Wilton's Democratic Town Commitee unanimously adopted a resolution Tuesday urging U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman to drop his filibuster threat and support a U.S. Senate vote on the health-care reform bill with a public insurance plan option. A portion of the resolution reads as follows: "Be it resolved that we, the Wilton Democratic Town Committee, urge Sen. Joseph Lieberman to not join Republicans to block Senate health reform votes, that Senator Lieberman allow upcoming debate to proceed and support cloture on a Senate bill including a public insurance plan option at all stages of the legislative process, even if he chooses to vote 'No' on the bill itself. And furthermore, we urge Sen. Chris Dodd to work with the Senate Democratic leadership to prepare legislation and procedures to allow health care reform with a public insurance plan option to be approved by a majority in the Senate, if necessary through the budget reconciliation process." -- Staff reports
