Friday, Feb. 5 Opening Art Reception for ArtWhirl - Here, There and Everywhere!, 6-7:30 p.m. A multi-talented group of artists brings an exciting exhibition of diverse styles, media and subjects to Wilton Library's February art exhibition. Artists include Paul Heifetz, Doug Leigh, Bill Moran, Bobbi Eike Mullen, Andy Neilly, Wendy Pieper and Ellin Spadone. Exhibition runs through Monday, March 1. Friday, Feb. 5 to Saturday, Feb. 6 -- Lights Out at the Library: Mysteries of Egypt, 7 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Boys in grades 2-4 are invited to spend the night at the library and celebrate all things Egyptian at this annual sleepover which includes stories, crafts, games, snacks, and short films. Special guest Nevine Michaels shares activities from her native country of Egypt. Breakfast will be served. Parents and guardians may join and assist. Fee: $50 for future Children's programs and materials. Registration required at Children's Library reference desk, payment due upon sign-up. Snow date: Friday, Feb. 19. Saturday, Feb. 6 -- International Folklore and Fantasy, 2-3 p.m. During each session kids can enjoy stories, dress, activities, and food from a different country. Guest speaker: Marika LeFevre of Finland. Grades 1-5, children under 12 must have a caregiver in the building. Registration required; no fee. Saturday, Feb. 6 -- Relay for Life Concerts, 6 and 8 p.m. Acoustic Wilton, Relay For Life of Wilton and Wilton Library host "The Relay Sessions" in the Brubeck Room at the library. Local music talent Joan Wallace, Dave Keefe, Kim Troy, Lauren Mirabile, Patty Perry, Tim Geaney, Chris Brown, Amy Jonsson and Scott Weber perform songs from their upcoming CD release "Acoustic Wilton-The Relay Sessions," a fundraising benefit for the "Relay For Life of Wilton." Learn to create and format a basic presentation in PowerPoint 2007 in these free classes. Basic computer skills, including mouse proficiency, are required. Tuesday, Feb. 9 -- JOBS! JOBS? JOBS: Marketing Plan + Elevator Speech = Results, 7-8:30 p.m. In this session of the continuing Jobs series co-sponsored by the library and the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, Ron Drew will show attendees how to create an Elevator Speech that catches the listener's attention and how to create a Marketing Plan (sometimes called a Networking Plan). Ron Drew, founder of Exec2Tech, a management consulting group of executives providing services to various industries, is a former Information Technology executive. No charge. Wednesday, Feb. 10 -- Children's Cross Stitch, 4-5:30 p.m. Children in grades 3-5 continue in part 2 of their Cross Stitch class. Sponsored by the Embroiderers' Guild of America.


Thursday, Feb. 11 through Thursday, March 25 -- Children's Beginner Chess, 4-5 p.m. and Children's Advanced Chess, 5-6 p.m. Children in grades 1-7 continue their Chess Club instruction with Christopher Potts. Those brand new to chess learn the history and rules of the game; basic checkmate themes and patterns and basic strategy and tactics. More advanced students review the basics; learn more advanced strategy and tactics; learn optimal opening and endgame play. Practice games included. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings), for children in grades 1-7. In-person registration is required, payment due at time of sign-up. Friday, Feb. 12 -- Drop-in Olympic Crafts, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Children of all ages can stop by during regular library hours and make an Olympics-themed craft to take home. No program fee; no registration. Made possible by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund.


Saturday, Feb. 13 -- WINRS (Wilton Intermediate Nutmeg Readers) Circle, 3-3:45 p.m. Calling all book lovers in grades 4-6: Come to the WINRs (Wilton Intermediate Nutmeg Readers) Circle to discuss the 2011 Nutmeg nominees. Connecticut's Nutmeg Award encourages children to read literature selected by a panel of state librarians and choose their favorite book out of ten titles. On the second Saturday of each month we will meet for fun, food (pizza donated by Wilton Pizza) and discussion. During February's meeting, club members will have the opportunity to meet-and-greet, view all 10 Nutmeg nominees, enjoy pizza, and receive a goody bag. Bring a friend, win a prize!
