Wilton man pleads guilty to manslaughter

WILTON -- A Wilton man involved in a fatal crash on Ridgefield Road pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday at Norwalk Superior Court.

According to Wilton Police, Gregory Dionisio, 21, of 221 Catalpa Road, was traveling northbound on Ridgefield Road at 7:28 a.m. on July 5 and crashed into Wilton resident Thomas C. Fleming, 50, of 71 Grey Rocks Road, throwing him from his motorcycle. Police reports stated that the grey 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier convertible that was driven by Dionisio was on the wrong side of the road at the time of the accident. Both Dionisio and Fleming were then taken to the Norwalk Hospital and, according to police reports, Fleming "succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at Norwalk Hospital."

Dionisio, who turned himself in on Aug. 27, 2009 after learning there was a warrant for his arrest, pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a motor vehicle in the second degree while intoxicated, and driving while intoxicated.

John Thygerson, Dionisio's attorney, said his client pleaded guilty in an attempt to provide some closure for the family and friends of Tom Fleming.

"Mr. Dionisio is extremely remorseful," said Thygerson. "A day doesn't go by that he isn't full of guilt because he caused the death of another. This plea will hopefully provide some sense of closure for the family and friends in the criminal and civil courts."

According to Thygerson, Dionisio's maximum sentence is 10 years with the possibility of parole after 6 years served.

Chris Fleming, who is Tom Fleming's brother, said the plea is a small progress for his family and friends.

"There is no such thing as a winner here," he said. "No matter what happens, Tom is not going to come back."

The arrest warrant affidavit stated that laboratory toxicology test results showed Dionisio had a blood alcohol content level of .09 percent and also tested positive for THC, Cocaine, Benzoylecgonine and Ecstasy.

Dionisio is next scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, June 10.

Geeb was the best. You, on the otherhand, are worthless. At least now everyone in town knows what a scumbag you really are.
I hope you meet a nice boyfriend in prison! You deserve it.

What happened was an accident. A "scumbag" would hide in their parents pockets and try to avoid jail time, like most Wilton youths. Instead, Greg accepted his punishment and is serving his time. Whats done is done and both families have been extremely affected. Give it a rest.

Deciding to drive drunk / high on coke, ecstacy, and whatever else is not an accident.

Have you ever considered that most drugs stay in your system for a couple of days. Where is your proof that he was under the influence of those drugs at the time? Just because he had a blood alcohol content of .9?

hey anonymous, have YOU ever considered the facts? You justify what he did by saying the drugs found in his blood were not effecting him? So what did effect him? What did cause him to drive on the wrong side of the road, not apply any brakes, not get out of his car after he killed Geeb, not offer the police any explanation, not cooperate with the nurses, drink his own urine, plead not guilty for so long? Only after he had fired his first lawyer and got another one to tell him the same thing, that he could not avoid Jail did he finally decide to get on with it. You must be his sobbing sister. Guess what, the facts all speak for themselves, that''s why he''s in jail.

I have sympathy for both families, but whats done is done. Greg is in jail, and both families are going through extremely tough times. I am also not his sister, and I think its terrible for you to mock her emotions.

What is done never should have happened...and never would have happened if your brother / buddy did not cause it to happen. His denials, not guilty pleas etc make him a scumbag...sorry to have to be the one to break it to you...He should have fessed up like a man from the beginning..but he did not. And that is why he will get no sympathy in this town...nor should he.
